The Language of God: A Scientist Presents Evidence for Belief
During Adult Forums in Epiphany,
beginning January 10, 2010 Carol Goff will lead a discussion of this book by Francis Collins. Dr. Collins rejects the bitter battles between religion and science that fill the media and offers his view that the discoveries of science are compatible with Christianity. Paperback copies are available on-line from Amazon.com for $9.50 or from Barnes & Noble and Books A Million for $15. If you would like to buy a copy locally, please sign the attendance list in the narthex by Dec. 27, and Carol will make sure enough copies are in stock.

Education for Ministry (EFM)
We have an active EFM group meeting Wednesday evenings at 7:00 in the Narthex. The EFM program,
which can be completed in four years, provides Christians with the basic skills in theological
reflection, which lay the foundation of Christian ministry. Through this process, students sharpen
their skills of personal and cultural assessment and enhance their ability to be effective in
a variety of ministries. Learn more about EFM
on the Sewanee web site or contact HNC's EFM mentors:
Phyllis Faas and Rick Garfield.
Retreats
Hickory Neck sponsors special retreats periodically - watch the newsletters and bulletins for information. Regular opportunities to grow as a Christian are offered by Cursillo in the Diosese of Southern Virginia.
Cursillo is often known as a three-day retreat weekend held at Camp Chanco on the James, but the weekend is not all that Cursillo offers.
