Bible Study - The Gospel of Mark

Sunday, September 24, 2023, 9:00 AM
Powerful, Courageous, and Trusting are three important words that capture how the author of the Gospel of Mark portrays Jesus and his ministry. Beginning on Sunday, September 24 at 9 a.m. in the Wilkinson Center for 8 sessions, we will explore the Gospel of Mark and how its author shows how Jesus was powerful and courageous in the face of threats from his enemies. Another major theme in Mark's Gospel is the nature of discipleship. Mark may have written the gospel for the newly founded church in Rome. The author presents Jesus as a model for how the young Roman church is to act. The Christians in Rome faced a powerful threat from the emperor, who was hostile to Christianity. Mark is telling them Jesus never wavered when confronted by adversaries and neither should they. This gospel's message is current in our day as it was nearly 2,000 years ago. The Gospel of Mark is not only the shortest Gospel in the New Testament, but it is also the first gospel to be written. The Resource Books are available.
