Faith and Film: Changemakers

June 30 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm

This year’s Faith and Film series starts on Sunday, June 30 at 5:00 p.m. The theme of this year’s series is changemakers – films based on those who made a difference, took a stand, and found a way to shift the course of history. We kickoff this year’s series with a special joint-viewing party with St. Martin’s of the documentary Philadelphia 11. The film debuted this year and has been viewed in churches around the country. St. Martin’s will join us in the New Chapel as we share in a meal, movie, and conversation. Freewill offering to offset food and film costs.

The film Philadelphia 11 features the story of how, in an act of civil disobedience, a group of women and their supporters organized their ordination to become Episcopal priests in 1974. The Church of the Advocate in Philadelphia welcomed them, but change was no small task. The women were harassed, threatened, and banned from stepping on church property. In this feature-length documentary film, we meet the women who succeed in building a movement that transformed an age-old institution, and challenged the very essence of patriarchy within Christendom.
