July 7: Pride is a 2014 British historical comedy-drama movie based on the true story of a group of lesbian and gay activists who raised money to help families affected by the British miners’ strike in 1984, which would become the Lesbians and Gays Support the Miners campaign. Realizing that they share common foes in Margaret Thatcher, the police and the conservative press, London-based gay and lesbian activists lend their support to striking miners in 1984 Wales. It stars Bill Nighy, Imelda Staunton, Dominic West, Paddy Considine, Andrew Scott, George MacKay, Joseph Gilgun and Ben Schnetzer. The movie was nominated for the Golden Globe Award for Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy and three BAFTA Awards

July 14: A League of Their Own stars Tom Hanks as Jimmy Dugan, a washed-up ballplayer whose big-league days are over. Hired to coach in the All-American Girls Baseball League of 1943, Dugan finds himself drawn back into the game by the heart and heroics of his all-girl team. Jon Lovitz appears as the sarcastic scout who recruits Dottie Hinson (Geena Davis), the baseball dolly with a Babe Ruth swing. Teammates Madonna, Lori Petty and Rosie O’Donnell round out the roster, taking the team to the World Series. Based on the true story of the pioneering women who blazed the trail, on the fields and off, for generations of athletes.

July 21: Children of Men is a 2006 dystopian action thriller film directed and co-written by Alfonso Cuarón, based on P. D. James’ 1992 novel The Children of Men. The film explores the themes of hope and faith in the face of overwhelming futility and despair. The film is set in 2027, when two decades of human infertility have left society on the brink of collapse. Asylum seekers seek sanctuary in the United Kingdom, where they are subjected to detention and refoulement by the government. In 2027, in a chaotic world in which women have somehow become infertile, a former activist agrees to help transport a miraculously pregnant woman to a sanctuary at sea.
