Sabbatical Memoir Writing
June 3, 2023 @ 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm
A memoir is a type of creative nonfiction based on the writer’s personal experiences and memories. Our daily writing in our journals will help us explore our memories and find those that we wish to develop to share with one another, with friends and/or family, or just to keep as our own reflections of important moments in our lives. As we focus on renewal through the sabbatical, the practice of writing and storytelling will help us reflect on our past as we look toward our future, both individually/personally and as a group/congregation.
Our Sabbatical Memoir Writing sessions will kick off on Saturday, June 3rd, from 5:00 – 6:00 p.m. in the Wilkinson Center and via Zoom. (The Zoom link to participate in the Memoir Writing will be forwarded to those who have signed up for the program.) At the kick-off session, you will receive a journal and a set of (short!) weekly prompts. As a group, we will select at least two follow up dates where we can gather, share our responses, work on developing these short responses into longer, memoir pieces, give each other feedback, and enjoy some sweet treats or other goodies! We are hopeful that at least some writers will want to continue writing after the sabbatical is over.
If you plan to join us, please RSVP to Tori Otstot or 231-420-1151. If you are unable to attend the kick-off session but still want to participate, please let Tori know so that Tori can get the materials to you and notify you of the dates and times of the follow-up sessions.
