Maundy Thursday

Maundy Thursday begins the Triduum, the most important part of Holy Week and the three most solemn days of the Church calendar. Associated primarily with the Last Supper of Jesus and his apostles, Maundy Thursday’s liturgy also explores several other important themes. The Prayer Book liturgy for Maundy Thursday provides for celebration of the eucharist and a ceremony of the washing of feet which follows the gospel and homily. After the Eucharist is celebrated it is customary to “strip the altar,” which symbolizes the abandonment of Jesus by his disciples and the stripping of Jesus by the soldiers before his crucifixion. It represents the humiliation of Jesus and the consequences of sin as a preparation for the celebration of new life.
Join us on Thursday, April 17 at 7:00 PM in the New Chapel. This service will also be livestreamed.
