Meet Our “Holy Vino” Sommelier
Becky Gurzynski was born in Iowa to David and Joyce Gunderlach. She moved to Virginia in 2006 in order to be closer to her parents, after her father retired from the Navy Chaplaincy. She worked in high-end restaurants, quickly becoming the bar manager in each location. This afforded her the opportunity to learn about wines from around the world from Le Cordon Bleu trained chefs. In September, 2013 she was recruited by a field sales manager for a wine distribution company to become an on-premise sales representative. She has continued with that company, Breakthru Wine and Spirits, selling wine to restaurants throughout Hampton Roads. Her education includes Wine and Spirit Education Trust (WSET) level 2 certification, and she is working toward level 3, receiving a level of distinction in the WSET 3 blind tasting exam and an accreditation of Sake knowledge. Her favorite wine is a New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc, but she also loves a bold red wine. She looks forward to presenting at this year’s “Holy Vino!”
