We believe that Christian Formation should be made available to everyone who calls Hickory Neck their church home, with materials and activities that are appropriate to various ages and levels of knowledge. All are welcome to register their children to participate in our programs.
Young children (ages 3 to 7) who have outgrown nursery care can attend an age-appropriate service of lessons, songs, and prayer offered in the Narthex during the 10:00 a.m. service. They process out of the main service to the Narthex prior to the Gospel and return to the main service at the Peace.
In this way, the children experience an age-appropriate Ministry of the Word, then complete our community of faith when we receive Holy Communion as one family in Christ.
Nursery care is provided during the 9:00 AM Formation hour and the 10:00 a.m. service. At least two people are caring for the infants and toddlers each Sunday during the 10:00 a.m. service and Sunday School.
Sunday School & Godly Play
Sunday School classes, at 9:00 a.m. which begins with a musical segment, span the years from preschool to elementary and middle school ages. Younger children are taught in Godly Play® classes which follow a Montessori approach. Current and past Godly Play classes are also available to view below or on Facebook (live streamed on Sunday’s at 7:30 a.m.). Older children learn about the Episcopal Church's forms of worship and exercise their creativity in arts and crafts projects.
Vacation Bible School
VBS is a week-long summer program for children, age 3 through rising 6th graders. The program is built around a unifying theme and offered jointly by the three Williamsburg area Episcopal churches: Bruton Parish, St. Martin's, and Hickory Neck Church. The three churches rotate serving as the host church. Teens and adults are encouraged to serve as volunteers in this ministry.
